After watching this consumer freedom video, I was shocked to see what these large corporations, that you think are good, are hiding from everyone. These corporations will tell you one thing, but than if you take the time to look into their business, will be the total opposite. Even though I am not a member of these organizations, I can’t believe that the money you donate isn’t all going to help save these poor animals, like the commercials tell you. These nonprofit organizations like The Center for Science in the Public Interest and Peta, trick consumers into sending them money for one thing and then don’t live up to their promises. This video brings to light the lies of an organization that you want to support. This has to be terrible for these organizations knowing that they have been exposed and haven’t fully committed to the cause they were out to support in the begging.
The center of consumer freedom, made this video so people would know the truth behind these corporations and nonprofit organizations. There is so much they try to hide from their consumers and CCF points that out. This topic has also been brought up by Patel and one of his main points is how power is wielded by “bottleneck corporations”. This means that these big corporations and organizations are making decisions on an everyday basis for their consumers. Organizations like Peta will still be funded because people will still believe they do as much good as bad, but it is interesting to see Peta in this situation of being caught in a lie and what they do to not have this bad perception of them. These two pictures i have really caught my attention about how some people feel about Peta. I always thought they were a company that loved animals and would stick with their morals and help them with whatever money they received, but that seemed to not be the whole case. These corporations are only hurting themselves by hiding the facts from the people that support them. Eventually they will come out and it tends to tarnish their names forever.
Consumer Freedom in our society seems to be a huge issue because even though this freedom is portrayed, the consumer really doesn’t have as much freedom as they say. Patel is a main advocate in saying that consumers need to stop being so oblivious and take the time to actually become aware of the things they put in their bodies. These huge corporations are the ones that own a lot of the foods in the super markets we go too and even if you are aware of the conditions and ways these foods are produced, you still do not really have a choice because that is what’s’ available. If you try to avoid these big corporations and eat healthy foods from somewhere else it tends to cost you a lot more money. If you aren’t rich, it becomes really hard for you to buy foods from these non-corporate places because of the high expenses. Something has to change about this and the way things are going, but how to change it becomes the question.
This was a video that brings to light some of the issues going on in the Peta organization and discusses the fact that Peta has lied to the consumers that support them and isnt living up to the standards they say they are.
